Today I have spent my afternoon lost in one of my
favourite bookshops (according to the shop itself it is Britain's largest second hand bookshop). It's so old and quirky I love it in there, right down to the wooden floorboards that creek with every step. I love how because all of the books are second hand (or more), they have a past. If books are allowed to have a life and so a past. You can almost feel the history coming off their pages. I picked up one book that had written on the front page, "To dad, all my love annie" dated 1945. That is a long time ago, 65 years, and that book is not one of the oldest ones there by far. It gives me tingles on the back of my neck.
I only left with one book, a play actually - Sheridan's The Rivals. I don't even have any money to spend so I shouldn't be spending it on books I don't need. I'm being reminded of another quote again..
"When I have a little money, I buy books; and if I have any left, I buy food and clothes."
— Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus
Fortunately I'm not this bad, but I fear I'm not too far off.
Where is this bookshop! I want to go!
ReplyDeleteFML nevermind.
ReplyDeleteBaggins Book Bazaar is set in the historic town of Rochester -- just an arrow-shot from the celebrated Norman Castle and Cathedral.
Take me!
